The **Order of Operations** is a set of rules that defines the sequence in which mathematical operations should be done in. All mathematicians (and computers) across the world follow this rule.

The acronym **BIDMAS** (or BODMAS) is used to remember the order to do calculations.

**B**: Brackets- Perform operations inside brackets first.

**I**: Indices - Calculate indices (or powers).

**D**: Division.

**M**: Multiplication.

**A**: Addition.

**S**: Subtraction.

\[ 3+2×(1+4)^2 \]

**B** - Work out the 1 + 4 inside the bracket.

\[ 3+2×(5)^2 \]

**I** - Square the 5.

\[ 3+2×25 \]

**M** - Multiply the 2 and 25.

\[ 3+50 \]

**A** - Add the 3 and 50.

\[ 53 \]
